9 facts associated with renewable energy

1. There are 5 types of renewable energy sources on the Earth: solar, wind, hydro, biomass and geothermal energy.

2. The amount of solar energy that falls on the earth’s surface in an hour equals the total annual energy consumption of all the World’s people.

3. Albert Einstein won the Nobel Prize in 1921 for his experiments with solar power and photovoltaic in the field of physics.

4. Geothermal energy in some areas is closer to the Earth’s surface. In these areas, underground water vapor or groundwater can be used to produce electricity.

5. During the summer of 1990, the solar-powered airplane Sunseeker, piloted by Eric Raymond, became the first solar-powered airplane to cross the United States.

6. One wind turbine can produce enough electricity to meet the energy needs of 300 homes.

7. The largest wind turbine in the world is located in Hawaii.

8.  Cut-in speed is the minimum wind speed at which the wind turbine will generate usable power. This wind speed is typically around 22km/h for most turbines. In countries such as Great Britain, obtaining that much wind speed is not very difficult at all.

9. Electricity production with water is a widely used method. Nowadays this way of energy production provides 28.3 mln people’s needs worldwide.
